Kinect Sports Season 2 as the sequel to one of the two competent games that launched alongside Kinect last year, you'd expect it to show a high level of confidence with the hardware, and thankfully it does. Skiing is slick, simple and – like all good party games – just a little bit embarrassing. Pushing off from the top of the slope with pretend ski poles, you have to tuck and lean to slalom between gates as fast as possible. It's a bit of a hamstring workout, and in Rare's non-air-conditioned basement the ceiling was low enough that I kept hitting my head off the ceiling during jumps, making it easily the most physically traumatic Kinect Sports event so far.

Revealed alongside skiing was Kinect Sports 2's Challenge Mode – even more condensed versions of each sport designed to be played in leader board competition with friends over Xbox Live. Skiing's Challenge mode is an obstacle course of jumps, ducks and quick turns; after racking up a decent score, you can send challenges to rivals, motivating them to beat it. Golf's challenge is a simple driving distance mini game, with targets floating on the sea for you to hit with golf balls thwacked from a yacht.
